I started cutting the wedges and triangles
for Kaleidoscope QAL!
Thank you so much to those of you
who voted for the survey about
which solid looks better than others.
And also thank you for the folks
over at the Flicker group
who helped me with that.
Although I see the result shows as
"straw" is the strongest,
then "sable" the next,
I still like them all! lol
Well, while I was cutting the prints,
I still could not make up my mind
between the two and decided to
lay the wedges out on each one of them
and leave them to see how they look like
to me tomorrow.
As those prints I'm using are
really summery, I think "straw"
may look better for this project,
however the rich look with "sable"
isn't bad at all. Sigh...
I know, I know,
I'm pretty much hopeless
on that one for sure :O
Anyhow, back to the cutting.
I cheated a little bit about making
the templates for the wedges.
As seeing this Kaleidoscope ruler
at J store the other day,
I looked at it and found it's good for
making the blocks between 6" and 12".
So while having a 50% off coupon on hand,
I grabbed one and waited for
Elizabeth's cutting instructions to see
if this one is a good one to go with.
And yes, it is a perfect one!!
Speaking of the ruler,
almost every time when I buy a new ruler
(Yes, I'm a ruler kind of a girl ;)),
except the ones already have their own thing
on the back,
the first thing I do is to put the Nexcare tape
on the back side of it to prevent from getting
slipped on the fabric while cutting.
Oh, if you haven't tried this trick,
it's just amazing and works beautifully!!
I was introduced to Nexcare tape during
Miss Rosie's club & Jo's Little Women's Club
at LQS about a year and a half ago.
It is one of the best weapons for quilting!
Sue who was the instructor for the both club
said "Get the purple tape!",
which is actually called
"Flexible Clear First Aid Tape" by Nexcare.
The color of the tape isn't actually in purple,
but the package is, a sort of.
Do you see I put the tapes
on each side and the center?
It works just great!
I'm pretty sure that you will be able to
find it at your local pharmacy.
BTW, do you remember about this quilt?
It's now quilted!
I quilted with simple straight lines
with variety of widths to give
that modern look a few days ago.
It was actually a lot harder than
free motion meandering to make
good straight lines!!
Can you believe that!?
So now, all I have left for this quilt is
putting the binding strip on which
but as it has been crazy hot lately,
I just don't feel like having something
really warm on my lap while
hand sewing the strip to stitch on.
It may be a sign of me need to learn
I do attach the binding strip to the quilt
by machine, but not to stitch
on the back to finish it.
More things to learn...
xoxo,

I can understand your indecision - they both look good!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about the tape. New info for me.
Love your bright, cheery quilt. I actually enjoy hand stitching the binding down. I find it very satisfying. Seems like quilters either love or hate this last step.
Ok, I like both the sable and the straw too. Now that I'm seeing it, I might like sable better. But I like straw too. lol! It all looks so pretty !
ReplyDeleteI have to remember about that nexcare tape. What a good suggestion!!! And your quilted quilt -- It's gorgeous! I so need to buy that pattern.....
I don't which is which, but I really like the dark brown background, so stunning against those AMH prints! Thanks so much for the tape tip, I'll be doing that for sure on a ruler that I HATE because it slides all over the place. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNow that you've cut the pieces and laid them all out I think I like the look of the sable more than the straw. The colors really pop with the sable.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about the Nexcare tape.
Love the quilt you've just quilted.
I'm loving both the light and dark.....but leaning towards the lighter shade. It's going to be beautiful whichever you choose! And your other quilt is wonderful! Isn't it funny how straight line quilting (or in the ditch) takes all your concentration to keep it straight....who knew it could be so hard!?! lol
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the info on the tape...and the link! There is a coupon on there! Yay! I will be getting it asap!
LOL, I still like the wine fabby for the background! It looks good laid out the way you have it. I don't know which I would choose if those were my only choices. Your almost finished quilt looks good!
ReplyDeleteZoinks!! Both are wonderful, and I love love love the prints! Your finished quilt is gorgeous, too. Don't laugh, but I have a quilt that is over ten years old that still needs the binding sewn onto the back. I have it attached to the front, but have only gotten half way to stitching it to the back. I shouldn't admit that, but I just don't like binding!! LOL
ReplyDeleteThey look fabulous Merumo, somehow I missed voting but agreee with the most votes lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the binding tutorial, will have to study that:)
Stay coooool:)
I am in LOVE with your fabrics for the Kaleidoscope quilt! It's going to be really gorgeous. I missed your fabric voting... :( I like the lighter of the 2 choices - but I always choose lights and off whites when I work with bright fabrics. Whatever you choose will look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour finished quilt is so BEAUTIFUL! Ms Limo looks darling underneath it!
I really like both, either will make a great quilt, I think it depends on the look you are going for. If you still can't decide, maybe lay the pieces on bigger parts of the background. I also love your other quilt.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is adorable. I like the "modern" fabrics mixed with others. The machine quilting looks great with that quilt.
ReplyDeleteI missed your previous post and didn't vote but I like the darker sable. Great tip on the tape and I LOVE your newest quilt finish. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour Kaleidescope quilt looks like it's going to be so much fun - to do and look at when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the top on the tape. I've been trying to find something to keep the rulers from sliding around. I using cork dots, but they would catch on the fabric sometimes, so that tape sounds like a winner!!
