We had our February meeting yesterday
for SSQSG - Small Scale Quilt Study Group.
The above is Lin's beautiful quilt
with itty bitty 9-patch blocks!!
All the appliques are wool.

to move forward to the rest. *****
And this is one of her JLW #9's quilts.
It smelled like the Jo's fabrics!
Kathy's blocks for the quilt
from "The CW sewing circle" book.
She told she is not crazy about
two of her blocks shown,
but we all agreed they will look just fine
once blended with other blocks :)
Yummy blocks!
She also finished this quilt
on the back cover of
"Nine Patch Gatherings" book,
but forgot to bring that one to the meeting :O
They are another popular books
among our members :)
I wonder if Lin's quilt in the first picture
is also made from that book?
Lin has been glued on that book
since last year and made almost all of them!
The next one is Mary Ellen's
miniature quilt.
She is making this as a donation
to AAQI.
Cheryl's finished two of hers
for the same purpose last year.
Kristine is a miniature queen ;)
She showed us two itty bitty quilts
she recently made.
The above is "Itty Bitty Primitive Pinwheel".
It's only 10" square!
And the left is also made by Kristine.
I think the star block is 1 1/2" finish size
while Kathy's are 4 1/2" on the right?
This one is her WIP called
"Never Take Beer to Job Interview"
by one of her favorite shops.
We got our copies during our road trip
to Southern California last year and
I haven't even made anything from
this book yet :O
I will have to flip the pages again
to find a trouble...
And her mom Pauline was
busy making cute purses lately.
It's for the fair visit or somewhere fun,
she said :)
Very nice and fun thinking just about that.
Sorry, the picture is not very clear with
the sun light coming from behind.
The fabric she used for this bag is
just a perfect one.
The above is Pauline's sewing machine
with the long narrow pincushion
found a perfect spot to sit.
I made that one for her
some time last year and ever since
she's being using it like that.
She decided to leave the ribbon
just like that there as original :O
How nice to see someone is enjoying
what I made...
And here is Cheryl's 1880 Sampler Quilt Along WIP.
She also made some more smalls and big ones which
I just can't share those pictures here yet
as one of them is for her Doll quilt swap partner
and the other one is for her class project
she is going to teach at our LQS.
Whoever is her doll quilt swap partner,
your quilt looked beautiful!!
Her Autumn's Bounty is quilted by
Carol Meka who is a famous
local machine quilter and teacher.
She does machine quilting
on her sewing machine, not the longarm!!
I've also taken her machine quilting class
about a year and a half ago at our LQS
and learned her technique.
Since then I just need to practice, and
more practice!!
Sigh...
More wool appliques on her beautiful quilt.
Then now time for
our siggy block exchange.
We all signed our names
during the meeting.
I will receive one more soon ;)
And here is something new to me
I've learned yesterday.
Cheryl got her sandpaper out
when we were all ready to sign our names.
I've heard about
it's helpful to use it putting
underneath of the siggy block
to sign your name.
She uses Fine 150 grit.
While she and I were talking about that,
here comes Kristine throwing
her sandpaper board out to the table!
Do you see the dark grey thing
in the middle of the above picture?
That's the front part of her
sandpaper board.
What a clever thing!!
And this is the back side of it
covered with a piece of fabric.
She told me that she used a cardboard
which is covered with a fabric,
then put the sandpaper on the front side.
And this huge quilt is made by
another Cheryl who was our guest.
She explained it was offered as a BOM
by Piecemakers in Costa Mesa, CA
years ago.
And her Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.
It's made from 1" hexaagons.
Very pretty!!
She shared some interesting stories
and we all enjoyed having her over.
You can read about her life story
Cheryl #1 told us
there is a blind quilter in Texas
and you can watch how she uses
her sewing machine to meke the quilts
on YouTube.
And the last one is the picture of
what I brought to the meeting.
Just an old news for you.
We are planning to have our block exchange
starting from April.
So far, we agreed to make
4" finish blocks of your choice
with the kind of fabrics we all love -
- reproduction, CW kind :)))
Each one of us will make eight blocks
to swap with everyone in our group.
I will have to start looking for
"my secret block" soon ;)
Phew!
Phew!
Did I cover everything
what I've seen during our meeting?

I don't think you covererd everything at the meeting Merumo LOL, what a fabulous post. The quilts and the ones in the making are breathtaking. Great to know that sandpaper is also used in the quiltroom, makes a change when I use mine before I paint:))
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing and sharing, you are all talented ladies. The pincushion is so cute!!
What a great post! Thanks ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat post! You take better pictures than I do! Sure enjoy our afternoons together. I think we do more talking and laughing though instead of quilting! =)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post ! Looks like you all had a great time. What talented friends you have !
ReplyDeleteWonderful post Merumo! I think you did a great job explaining your day together with your quilting buddies. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at every picture of all the beautiful projects. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn :)
OH MY GOODNESS!! You must live in a mecca for creativity. Close to The Attic, and close to a group with so many creative people. I loved ALL of the quilts, but I think my favorite is the one with the wool applique. And the hexagons. And the nine patch. And so on. ;) I need to get back to my hexagons after seeing that hexagon quilt!
ReplyDeleteit's as if we were also there ! Thank you Merumo ! You belong to a great group !
ReplyDeleteCan't stop sighing hihi!!! OMG Merumo, what gorgeous things you are showing. Love the little quilts! Haven't started on the 40 ct as yet but it is calling to me hihi!!! hugs, Daniëlle

ReplyDeleteWhat an inspiring post! I love the tiny stars. I must make some myself and I cannot wait.
