Back to winter again?

It's been extremely cold and raining
here in Arizona after having
over 100F just a few days ago!

I don't actually mind to have a rainy day
as I'll have a great excuse to stitch away
all day long without having any guilty feeling :p

1839 Susan Rambo Sampler
by Janis Lockhart of Cross-Points Designs
@SANQ #62, Spring 2011 issue
Fabric: 40ct Vtg. Maple Sugar @LLs
Fiber: called NPI w/some substituions

I put quite few stitches into Susan
this weekend.
Now can I say I'm just about half way done?

Besides playing with Susan,
I started making something little in this morning.

When you don't know what to do with
a stack of the charm pack,
this will be a great thing to make.

These coasters are the practice pieces
of my free motion quilting :)

Since I haven't done any lately and
know I do need to keep practicing
to remember that tricky movement
of my hands,
I came up with this idea to make
something practical to use,
rather than just having a practice piece
without any fun.

My favorite way to make
Hourglass block is this way.
It goes fairly fast and nice :)))

From four pieces of 5" charm squares,
you will get four sets of Hourglass blocks
with 4" unfinish size.
(You will also need four more charm pieces
for backing and 1 1/4" width binding strips
 to make the coasters.)

  3. Wow! You are cold! We'll be in the low 70's today -- a first for this year. But thunderstoms are going to cool things off, so it's a one time thing for us. Love Susan! Wow, she's so beautiful! I'd say you're more than halfway done, right? Love her! Love your idea for those coasters too! I can't imagine doing machine quilting -- so cool that you're practicing it! It looks great! I have to bookmark your way to make hourglasses!

  7. I like rainy days in the fall and spring, but I like it warmer. While you were still cool, we got up to 80 degrees here in Michigan. Not our normal weather, but happily accepted as it's been so cold around here.

I'm just loving Susan more and more. It's so great that you've gotten so far along in the piece.

  8. Ah, rainy days--they're wonderful here and there! Your Susan looks GREAT!! I thought of you this morning because I got a package with some silks for a few different projects, including Susan. I love that red!

Your coasters are SO neat! I just went to the tutorial, and then the Flickr pages, and then kept clicking. ACK!! So many things I want to do. ;)

  10. "Susan" is looking lovely & your coasters are just adorable. You are so creative! I'm glad it's not cold here now. We about froze in NC Sat. though! It's nice today, in the mid 70's & sunny. Supposed to be in the mid 80's tomorrow.

Can't wait to see what's next - keep the pictures coming!!

    Hugs,
    Amy
