Sunday's Pleasure #1- Applique

Ms. Limo: What's in there?
I smell something not quite yummy
as my favorite treats...

Since we came back from our trip
to Southern California,
I've been really busy with all sort of
new projects inspired by our trip :)

There are two more shop visits
I'm planning to post here,
but before getting there,
I thought I should share some of
my latest ones first...

Ms. Limo: Can you believe she've started
the applique project?
I rememeber she said
she won't get there any time soon
after her last two applique projects!

#2- The 3rd pic from the top.
"Fit to Frame: Pattern Thirteen"
by Lori Smith@ Quilt my heart to your hands
Monthly mini kit@ Temecula Quilt Co.

This mini applique sampler block
was offered a part of Monthly Mini at TQC
earlier this year or so
and I was fortunate to have found
the leftover kits in the shop
on our visit the other day.

I love her monthly minis
with Sheryl's fabric selection.
It totaly gives the projects
a different new look!!

I've learned quite few new things/techniques
to me on our shop vists this time
and this is one of them
to use the quilting thread for
any applique projects!
Yes, any- Wool or cotton fabrics.

Sheryl suggested this YLI Quilting thread
after I heard that,
I saw many many applique shop samples
were done by either this thread
or the regular sewing thread.
Even for the wool projects!

One of the benefits of using this quilting thread
is it is so nice and smooth.
You don't need Thread Heaven over it!

Ms. Limo: Ok, what else?

And another benefit seems to be
it's not quite as slippery as my favorite
thread for the applique projects,
YLI Silk #100 thread.

I think for the traditional fine work,
YLI Silk #100 thread
with Blind whip stitch looks better,
but I really like this quilting thread
stitched with Primitive whip stitch!

Yes, Primitive whip stitch is another new thing
introduced to me during our trip.
I tried that stitch for my applique block
 in the above pictures with
the quilting thread.
It certainly gives "that" kind of look!
I really like it for my primitive projects :)))
and using that with another one of
my WIP I'll show you later ;)

  1. It's always great to learn a new technique. I look forward to seeing all of the mini blocks that you are creating!
