My first patriotic quilts!
When I saw Taryn's this little quilt (2nd pic of this post.),
my plan for yesterday afternoon was
beautifully set! lol
As I haven't made any Americana quilt,
I choose Red, White and Blue,
and added a star block
to make it looks like patriotic.
I washed the above one,
then left outside overnight last night,
but I would like to make it
look a bit more vintage,
so I will wash it again and
try to scrunch up harder,
then lay in sun to dry.
Then by the time
when I saw this post by TQC,
Ms. Limo and I were still home alone
and being totally bored,
I had to make the above Snowball one, too!
Crafter's ADD!!!
I figured TQC's blocks are 3" finished,
or they might be only 2"???,
but mines are 4"s.
I've set my plan for this summer
to practice Free motion machine quilting
since some time ago.
But I haven't done much since.
I feel pretty comfortable with
Stitch-in-the-ditch quilting by machine,
but not really with Free motion at all.
So they are my quick practice pieces
(I don't like practicing on the muslin sandwiches!)
and turned out ok, I think.
Still need a lot more of practice!!!
Darling little quilts! And great colours too, very appropriate for Independance Day! To make your quilt more vintage looking, get it wet (by delicate cycle on washer or just in the sink and wring it out a little) and then put it in the dryer on HOT HOT HOT. If it is a little more damp than what would normally come out of the washer, that's what gives it the best results. This makes a very "puffy"/loved look (my fave). You quilting look fabulous! I better step-it-up a notch!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts!! I like them!

I really like these! I also don't have much in the way of patriotic or Americana quilts to celebrate the summer holidays and need to make some. I like your ideas--might have to "borrow" them! Your machine quilting looks great. Good job!
